Below is Assignment #4, my Exquisite Corpse!

I enjoyed this assignment, since it helped me practice using Illustrator and because it's a silly cartoon figure we as a class hand drew. I had fun playing with the shapes, designs, and colors. :)

Hey everyone!
Check out the logo I created for my first project using Illustrator!
The logo is for a desirable beach bar business I hope to have one day! :)

I imagine to have this beach bar restaurant located in Clear Water, Florida. I want it to be near only the best, five star resorts/hotels to receive target market (upper class, vacationers.) The vibe I am going for is sexy and relaxed with the best beach bar food their is. I want the bar food to be high quality food and unique. I chose feminine, mermaid figure, to show that the bar is sexy. I wanted her to be a mermaid, since the restaurant bar is on the water. The martini glass, to show that it's a place to grab a drink and food. The font script, to add to edginess.

Below are some original sketches that I came up with when formulating potential business/logo ideas for this project.

Caligramme in Apollinaire's Way! :)

Spring Caligramme in Apollinaire's Way!This is my Caligramme, that represents Spring Time. I chose a sunflower, with a Spring poem that traces around the shape of a sunflower :)
In the above Caligramme I used Illustrator's pen tool and type tools, creating an image comprised entirely by text. I chose the colors pink and baby blue since those are my favorite colors! Can't wait to try and trace my logo next!

For my Digital Arts class I was assigned to choose five logos and give them an overall critique and state whether I thought they were a success or a fail. Three-business logos that I believe to successful are Target's white and red bulls eye logo, Shell Oil's gold scallop logo, and Nike's black check. I consider these logo's to be a hit because they are clean, simple, to the point, and pleasing to the eye. For instance, Shell Oil’s complimentary colors and simplicity, makes the logo easily recognizable and gives a bold statement. For Target, by making their logo an actual target symbol makes people remember their logo since it is the same as their name. Last but not least, Nike’s black check logo is also very successful since it represents “swoosh”, which emphasizes speed and fast motion. The logo itself can give off a positive, euphoric feeling, which works great with Nike’s company, giving that it is an athletic store.

Two logo’s I felt that failed were Sun Rise Sushi, which is the concept of a sun rising behind a Japanese teahouse. However, the only idea that is represented to the audience is inappropriate. The sun looks like it is in the shape of someone’s behind, and the teahouse is hitting against the sunset in a strange angle. This logo will definitely be remembered, but can be offensive.

Another logo that was a disappointment was State of Vermont’s Pure Maple Syrup. It is supposed to be a tree with maple syrup being trenched out. But what the logo actually looks like is a side profile of someone's legs and hindquarters.
