For my Digital Arts class I was assigned to choose five logos and give them an overall critique and state whether I thought they were a success or a fail. Three-business logos that I believe to successful are Target's white and red bulls eye logo, Shell Oil's gold scallop logo, and Nike's black check. I consider these logo's to be a hit because they are clean, simple, to the point, and pleasing to the eye. For instance, Shell Oil’s complimentary colors and simplicity, makes the logo easily recognizable and gives a bold statement. For Target, by making their logo an actual target symbol makes people remember their logo since it is the same as their name. Last but not least, Nike’s black check logo is also very successful since it represents “swoosh”, which emphasizes speed and fast motion. The logo itself can give off a positive, euphoric feeling, which works great with Nike’s company, giving that it is an athletic store.

Two logo’s I felt that failed were Sun Rise Sushi, which is the concept of a sun rising behind a Japanese teahouse. However, the only idea that is represented to the audience is inappropriate. The sun looks like it is in the shape of someone’s behind, and the teahouse is hitting against the sunset in a strange angle. This logo will definitely be remembered, but can be offensive.

Another logo that was a disappointment was State of Vermont’s Pure Maple Syrup. It is supposed to be a tree with maple syrup being trenched out. But what the logo actually looks like is a side profile of someone's legs and hindquarters.
